In 2023 you started with a completely renovated store, what was the reason for doing this renovation?
I took over the store from my parents in January 2021. The interior was from 1999, so you can imagine I wanted to throw a breath of fresh air into it. The demand for eye care has also increased and the store has become increasingly busy. That's why I thought hard about how we could continue to answer the question in the future.
The most important thing was to make the store attractive to the younger generation because they shop in a different way and want more experience. I now see more young people coming into the store, it's a nice mix of young and old. There will be a large new residential area with many young families. The store had to be ready for that because our hometown "Boekel" is growing rapidly. You have to go along, Standing still is the fastest way of moving backwards in a rapidly changing world.
How did you solve this challenge?
In 1986 my parents founded Franssen Optiek in a rented building. My father had already exchanged some ideas with Jos Baijens and Jos has always stuck with me as an independent optical architect.
During our exploratory talks, I indicated that I wanted, for example, a second measuring room and wanted to build out the back. He had worked this out, but he also came up with plan B to also involve the aisle at the side of the store. You lose very little space and can very clearly see the eye measurement areas prominently in the store. That immediately got my interest.

Everything is structured and works perfectly with the latest techniques of today. We have created peace of mind.
Create a warm and spacious feeling in your store
Jos wanted to keep it spacious, we have a floating sideboard below the frames display, which creates a spatial effect. He also wanted to do the same on the other side with the eye measurement rooms.
There is a space between the ceilings of the eye measurement rooms, like a matchbox. All ceilings are completely acoustic, which gives you a warm feeling when you enter the store as if it embraces you.
Highlight your most important luxury eyewear in the Carré eyewear cabinets with beautiful images
I especially liked the illuminated Carré spectacle cases and Jos was the decisive factor in the idea for this wall. He showed it to me with photos on a drawing and I had every confidence in this, especially when I also saw it at the fair.
I am very happy with it, I can highlight important luxury brands better, and I can do justice to new brands there. Together with the large canvas next to it and the illuminated poster boxes you can bring this to the attention.

We have been carrying Silhouette for more than 30 years and we have that in the smaller illuminated Carré spectacle case. Those more luxurious glasses can also be given a different place in the store.

To present some more numbers I used the Alumina spectacle posts. We have little stock and want to hang everything in sight.
The strength of the combinations of the different presentations is that customers see that we have many glasses in various segments.
What are you most proud of?
Proud of my team for doing this all together! That we attract so many new people to our store. About 250-300 new customers per year at the moment, those are nice numbers.
